Chronicle Place was built in 1903 by Mr. L. Baker. After the addition of 7 vaults and safes, Merchants and Planters National Bank opened in 1914. Two giant, walk-in, side-by side vaults still operate on a time lock system. The three-story building also housed Cherokee Drug Store, Citizen & Southern National Bank, and Cherokee Chronicle.
