The depot stood where the current Post Office is, with the Stites Hotel immediately to its north. The Detroit, Eel River and Illinois railroad reached town in 1853 and was a vital reason for the town's growth. The depot was considered one of the most luxurious in N.E. Indiana. Over the years, the Vandalia, Pennsylvania, Penn Central, and Conrail were among the railways that came through town. In its prime, 15-20 freight and passenger trains ran these rails, and the last train passed through Churubusco in 1962.
