This fellowship began as a Baptist Church of Christ in 1864. In 1890, members reorganized at Greer's Neighborhood, now the Golden Rule community, as Stephen's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, a name honoring church elder Stephen Kelley, who had died the previous year. In 1902, a sanctuary was built on the banks of Black Branch, a stream near New Hope Cemetery that was used for baptismal services. In 1916, the church was renamed New Hope Baptist, and the congregation moved to its present location the following year.
