Chicago Peak is a 13,385-foot mountain in southwest Colorado’s Sneffels Range, east of Telluride on the boundary of San Miguel and Ouray counties within Uncompahgre National Forest. Rising above the ghost town of Tomboy, it is notable for its steep relief, climbing about 2,000 feet above both Imogene Basin and Savage Basin in roughly a mile or less. Its runoff feeds tributaries of both the San Miguel and Uncompahgre rivers. In an alpine subarctic climate, the mountain has cold, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, year-round precipitation, and summer thunderstorms. Nearby gold and silver mining and the abandoned town of Tomboy reflect the area’s mining past.
