United States Mountain is a 13,036-foot summit in southwest Colorado near Ouray, in the Sneffels Range of the San Juan Mountains within the Rockies. Rising west of the Continental Divide above Yankee Boy Basin, its north face climbs about 3,300 feet above the Camp Bird Mine in roughly a mile, giving it a steep, abrupt presence. The mountain also stands within the San Juan high country’s hard-rock mining history, with nearby gold and silver workings and the Hidden Treasure Mine on its south slope. It has an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and runoff that drains into Canyon Creek, a tributary of the Uncompahgre River.
