Current River State Park occupies 839 acres along the Current River north of Eminence, combining Ozark outdoor recreation with a preserved historic retreat landscape. Its central buildings and grounds began as the Alton Club, a corporate retreat for the Alton Box Board Company of Alton, Illinois, used in the 1930s and 1940s. This origin gives the park an unusual character, with rustic architecture and a planned lodge setting rather than only a natural preserve. The historic Alton Club structures were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The park also offers lakes for fishing and boating, picnicking, hiking trails, and tours of the historic buildings.
