Roger Pryor Pioneer Backcountry is a sixty thousand-acre recreation area in Missouri managed for public hiking and backpacking on private land overseen by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. It is part of Pioneer Forest, the state's largest private forest, and is owned through the L-A-D Foundation, the endowment of timber magnate, conservationist, and philanthropist Leo Drey. The area includes the Current River Natural Area, with trees about four hundred years old, and the Pioneer Natural Area, known for old-growth cedar and hardwood forest. Roughly twenty-seven miles of trails cross the backcountry, including sections of the Ozark Trail, Brushy Creek Trail, and Laxton Hollow Trail.
