The Plant Collections Network is a North American collaboration of botanical gardens and arboreta, administered by the American Public Gardens Association with the USDA Agricultural Research Service. Created to coordinate plant germplasm preservation and improve collections management, it centers on documented collections of woody and herbaceous ornamentals, both native and exotic. Participating institutions each develop comprehensive collections for particular taxa, drawing material from across a plant’s natural range to preserve taxonomic and genetic diversity. Through membership standards, recordkeeping, long-term care, research access, and collection-by-collection accreditation, the network helps gardens share conservation work, reduce duplication, identify gaps, and safeguard living plant diversity.
