Mount Versteeg is a 13,471-foot summit on California’s Sierra Nevada crest, straddling Tulare and Inyo counties and the boundary between Sequoia National Park and the John Muir Wilderness. Ranked the 66th highest peak in California, it rises sharply above Lake Helen of Troy and sheds water west to the Kern River and east to Owens Valley. Officially named in 1964 for Chester Versteeg, it honors a lawyer, author, and Sierra Club leader who promoted the Sierra Nevada, made 40 first ascents, and helped name about 250 features in the range, including nearby Trojan Peak and Lake Helen of Troy.
