Village Creek State Park in Lumberton, eastern Texas, preserves 2,466 acres of Piney Woods floodplain along Village Creek, a sand-bottomed tributary of the Neches River. Acquired by the state in 1979 and opened in 1994, it is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Its lowland wetlands include bottomland hardwood forest, cypress domes, water tupelo swamps, and bayheads, supporting wildlife such as white-tailed deer, swamp rabbit, snapping turtles, snakes, toads, and notable spiders, while the creek provides fishing. The park’s plant life includes bald cypress, river birch, riverflat hawthorn, and yaupon holly, and visitors use the creek, trails, campsites, picnic areas, and nature center.
