The first recorded use of this corner was a horse livery in the 1880's, which operated until it was destroyed by a fire that caused the loss of many horses. Over the years, the crossroads became a popular site for service stations and restaurants. The Weeder & Compton Coal Company station stood there in the early 1920's. When 14 Mile was paved in 1928, a modern station with a brilliant white exterior, shining gas pumps, and two auto repair bays was built there. The new Texaco station was owned by Russ Davis. During the 1930's and 1940's, Staub's Village Grill also occupied the corner, and a local riding club visited the Grill.
