Livingston Parish was created by the legislature in 1832 and was named for Edward Livingston. Its courthouse sites were Van Buren from 1832 to 1835, Springfield from 1835 to 1872, Port Vincent from 1872 to 1881, Centerville from 1881 to 1941, and Livingston from 1941 to the present.
