In downtown Mansfield, the Historic Bissman Building served as the exterior of the Brewster Hotel, while the hotel room itself was filmed at OSR. In Brooks's account, after parole he lives in a halfway house called the Brewster and works bagging groceries at the Foodway, struggling with the pace of the outside world, the pain in his hands, sleeplessness, fear, loneliness, and memories of Jake, until he decides not to stay.
