Northwest Trek is a 723-acre wildlife park near Eatonville, Washington, operated by Metro Parks Tacoma with Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Founded after David and Connie Hellyer donated their property in 1971, it opened in 1975 and expanded through later public funding and land purchases. Its most distinctive feature is a 435-acre free-roaming area where large animals live in open habitat and are viewed by tram, private vehicle, or guided Jeep tour. Walking areas, trails, learning centers, and traditional habitats add more species and educational opportunities. Northwest Trek is significant for combining wildlife viewing, conservation, education, and protected open space.
