McChord Air Museum, at McChord Field near Lakewood, Washington, preserves the history of the airfield through aircraft, artifacts, restoration work, and exhibits closely tied to the active base. Developed from plans begun around 1982, it opened to the public in 1984 in a small building and expanded as its collection grew. Its holdings now occupy a main gallery, an outdoor airpark beside the runway, and a restoration facility. Notable additions included a C-124 flown in during 1986, years after the type left service, while indoor exhibits feature the former control tower, an F-106 simulator, aviation art, and a 2024 painting by Keith Ferris.
