The Postmaster's House, one of the oldest structures in Novato, was built circa 1850 and originally stood on South Novato Blvd west of Yukon Way. Its earliest known occupant was Henry Jones, who began Novato's postal service in 1856 and served as postmaster until 1860. In 1972, owner Fabian Bobo offered to give the house to the City of Novato if it would be moved so apartments could be built on the site, and the City accepted and relocated it to its present location that year. After renovation, the house became the home of the Novato History Museum and Archives, which opened in June 1976 through a partnership between the City and the Novato Historic Guild.
