In the early 20th century, freight, dairy, mail, livestock, fertilizer, and grain, all key elements of Centreville's economy, were shipped from the Pennsylvania Railroad freight station in Centreville. By 1915, the Harbison Dairy group of Philadelphia was regularly shipping milk from Queen Anne's County to Philadelphia. In 1921, the Town Commissioners made a major agreement to expand the facility so it could house milk from all five Upper Shore counties for shipment to the primary dairy facilities in Philadelphia, giving local dairies broader marketing opportunities. The Centreville Railroad Yard developed into the early 1900's as the town and county pursued agricultural and commercial growth.
