Robert “Bob” Schatt purchased a lot at this location in 1938 from Tom Glenchur to build a Union Oil service station, which he opened in 1939. During World War II, he would not drive his own car so he could save his ration stamps for G.I.'s to use when they came home on leave. He operated the service station with the help of his daughter, Anna Louise, until his death in 1950.
