Laguna Mountain Recreation Area
Nature
Laguna Mountain Recreation Area is a federally managed protected area in California’s San Benito County, centered on the 4,462-foot Laguna Mountain in the Diablo Range near Hernandez Reservoir. Rather than alpine terrain, it is a somewhat rugged landscape of rolling hills, dense brush, chaparral, oak forest, and grassy meadows typical of the state’s interior ranges. Laguna Creek flows through the area most of the year, and its gorge contains a series of waterfalls that form one of the area’s most scenic attractions. Though relatively undeveloped, the area supports outdoor recreation with two campgrounds and three trailheads for hiking and day use.
