Walnut Creek United Methodist Church was organized as a Methodist Episcopal Church, with charter member Arthur Love as its first pastor. It became Methodist Protestant in 1828, changed to Methodist Church in 1939, and affiliated with United Methodist in 1968. In the original log church, Judge James Q. Smith of Montgomery presided in 1869 at the first court held in Baker County, now Chilton. Around 1875, a frame building replaced the log church, and the present brick building was erected in 1935. Walnut Creek U. M. C. has always maintained a progressive Sunday School.
