Charles Durand, a pre-Civil War sugar planter, is credited with planting this alley. Legend holds that a family wedding party rode down the alley beneath giant spider webs dusted gold and silver. The land was part of a ca. 1795-99 Spanish grant to Jacques Fontenette.
