The Waldo-Hancock Bridge is a unique suspension bridge that opened in 1931 with a total span of 2040 feet, about 7 football fields, at a height of 135 feet. Each 206 foot tower rests on a concrete pier that required six days of continuously pouring concrete to build. The bridge's final cost was $850,000, and its replacement cost today is well in excess of $40 million. This bridge and the nearby Deer Isle - Sedgwick Bridge share the same basic design.
