City of Hawkinsville is the wreck of a wooden paddle steamer in the Suwannee River in Dixie County, Florida, preserved as an underwater archaeological site near the Old Town railroad trestle. Built in 1886 at Abbeville, Georgia, for the Hawkinsville Deepwater Boat Lines, it later entered Florida trade after its 1900 sale to the Gulf Transportation Company of Tampa. The vessel carried lumber and general supplies between Branford and Cedar Key and, at 141 feet by 30 feet, was the largest steamboat stationed on the Suwannee. Abandoned in 1922 as rail service reduced river traffic, it remained in place and was later recognized for its historical importance.
