The Orange and Alexandria Railroad roundhouse was formerly located near Duke and South Henry Streets. An engine there was named after Brigadier General Herman Haupt, chief of transportation for the U.S. Military Railroads during the Civil War. A Mathew Brady photograph shows the scene after 1863.
