At a public meeting here on June 22, 1774, resolutions by Richard Henry Lee offering aid to Boston after the British government closed its port were adopted. Here on May 23, 1775, the Westmoreland Committee on Safety passed resolutions denouncing the Royal Governor, Lord Dunmore, for seizing the colony’s powder supply at Williamsburg.
