The settlement of Content was named for the contentment of its valley and was founded in 1881 by Dan W. Hale. Michael C. Bright, who settled there in 1882 and later served as an early county commissioner, operated a general store at this site, and his family worked for the progress of the area. The town was renamed Tokeen, was bypassed by the railroad in 1909, and its post office was discontinued in 1916.
