Copia, formally The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts, was a nonprofit museum and educational center in downtown Napa that operated from 2001 to 2008 as an ambitious effort to explore American culture through wine, food, and the arts. Largely funded by Robert and Margrit Mondavi, it became a major part of Napa’s downtown redevelopment and occupied a large site with galleries, theaters, classrooms, tasting spaces, a library, and gardens. The property also preserved an older layer of local history as a former Italian immigrant agricultural complex. Financial struggles and lower-than-expected attendance forced its closure in 2008, though part of the site later reopened under the Culinary Institute of America.
