The redwood trees along this path are dedicated in memory of the seven Challenger crew members who lost their lives in the Space Shuttle accident that occurred on January 28, 1986: Gregory B. Jarvis, Sharon Christa McAuliffe, Ellison S. Onizuka, Francis R. Scobee, Ronald E. McNair, Judith A. Resnik, and Michael J. Smith.
