Sears Point is a prominent landform in southern Sonoma County, California, projecting toward San Pablo Bay as the southernmost peak of the Sonoma Mountains and the southwestern ridge above Tolay Lake. It was named for Franklin Sears, who settled on 600 acres south of Sonoma in 1851 and later helped acquire about 15,000 acres, part of which became the site of today’s Sonoma Raceway. Since European settlement in the mid-19th century, the surrounding Napa Sonoma Marsh has been heavily altered, creating more upland between the point and the bay. Recent restoration efforts have focused on recovering historic tidal wetlands and the bay’s natural shoreline.
