Ninepipe National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area in western Montana, about five miles south of Ronan within the Flathead Indian Reservation on Tribal Trust Lands of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Established in 1921, the 4,027-acre refuge is part of the National Bison Range Complex and consists mostly of a reservoir, with only about 390 acres of exposed land around the water. That setting makes it especially valuable for birds, including grebes, Canada geese, bitterns, great blue herons, ducks, and osprey. Muskrat, badger, porcupine, and occasional grizzly bears also use the area. Federal management is limited to habitat and species protection.
