This memorial honors those who served, in honor of the living and in memory of the dead, and records local war dead and missing from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Lebanon Marine Barracks attack, and the Iraq War. It names those killed in action in World War II from communities including Berlin, Ocean City, Showell, Bishopville, Campbelltown, Whaleytown, Willards, St. Martins, Ironshire, Powellville, and Newark, serving in the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Air Force, and Marine Corps in places including Germany, Holland, Anzio Beachead, Italy, France, the North Atlantic, the Pacific, England, New Guinea, at sea, North Africa, the Phillipines, Pearl Harbor, Bougainville, the Atlantic, the Battle of the Bulge, and Iwo Jima. It also names those missing in action in World War II from Berlin, Ocean City, and Bishopville, and lists the dead of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, a Marine honored from the Lebanon Marine Barracks attack in 1983, and Samuel Robert Bowen of the U.S. Army, killed in Iraq on July 7, 2006.
