Burr Oak State Park in southeastern Ohio spans 2,593 acres around 664-acre Burr Oak Lake, mostly in Morgan County with part in Athens County, alongside Wayne National Forest and the Sunday Creek State Wildlife Area. Named for the burr oak tree, the park centers on a reservoir created by Tom Jenkins Dam, a federal flood-control project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Built from 1948 to 1950 and followed by the park’s 1952 dedication, the dam also supports recreation and provides drinking water for the Athens area. The park now offers boating, swimming, fishing, hunting, camping, cabins, trails, and wildflower meadow habitat.
