Iargo Springs, near Oscoda above the Au Sable River, is a natural spring site known for its viewing decks, long wooden boardwalk, stairs to the river, and wide valley overlooks. Used as a drinking water source before Euro-American settlement, it later became part of the logging era when dams diverted water to nearby camps, at a time when much of present-day Cooke Pond was dry land. By the 1920s it had also become a recreational stop for European visitors. A Civilian Conservation Corps trail built in 1934 improved the site, and after storm damage destroyed the dams in 1981, renovations in 1991 added steps, boardwalks, and rebuilt dams.
