Toadstool Park features badlands and distinctive geologic formations, with a one-mile trail through ancient rocks, fossil remains, and trackways left by mammals that thrived here 34 million years ago. Parts of Toadstool are closed to motorized vehicles and horses, and there are no reliable water sources available. Federal regulations prohibit collecting vertebrate fossils, including fossilized remains and tracks of animals with skeletons or backbones, and in the Toadstool Special Interest Area no fossils may be collected, including invertebrates and plants. Ancient animal tracks are fragile, so visitors are urged to walk carefully over the sandstone and leave rocks and toadstools undisturbed. The area has six campsites with picnic tables and fire grates.
