Arlington Peak is a 3,258-foot mountain in the Santa Ynez Mountains above Santa Barbara, forming part of the rugged high ground with nearby summits. Its name is said to date to 1889, when Arlington Hotel staff called this group of peaks the Arlington Crags, though Arlington Peak was not officially recognized until 2004 by the United States Board on Geographic Names. Made primarily of Matilija Sandstone, the mountain shares the stark, craggy character of this section of the range. A difficult 4.1-mile out-and-back trail reaches the peak, and the route is also used for rock climbing, with occasional accidents requiring evacuation.
