Preston Peak, known in Karuk as keech'íihyan, is a dominant mountain in the Siskiyou Wilderness of the Klamath National Forest in northern California, rising well above nearby summits and offering expansive views that can include the Pacific Ocean, the Klamath Mountains, and the distant Cascade Range. Its striking profile gave it an outsized reputation among travelers and writers despite not being the region’s highest summit. The mountain and its watershed are protected as the Preston Peak Botanical and Geological Area for their unusual geology and plant life, including the southern range limits of Alaska cedar and noble fir, a distinctive high-elevation Pacific yew population, and rare plants such as phantom orchid and Siskiyou fritillary.
