Citizens of Maries County dedicated this memorial to their sons who served the nation and the cause of humanity in the World War from 1914 to 1918, and in memory of those who gave the last full measure of devotion: Ransom Ray Birdsong, John Leslie Parker, Rector Guy Boyce, Harry Wood Sharp, Elijah E. Overlease, Richard Bland Bierbaum, Benjamin Ralph Wiles, and Claude Franklin Chider.
