Phillips County Carnegie Library in Malta, Montana, was built in 1917 as a tan-brick library on a stone foundation, measuring 34 by 62 feet. “Carnegie Library” remains carved in sandstone above its entrance, preserving its original identity. After the public library moved to a new location in May 1978, the local historical society planned to convert the building into a museum interpreting local history, linking the structure’s architectural past with the community it had long served. Its significance was formally recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 27, 1980.
