Lansden Park Gazebo
History
3
The cupola atop the gazebo in Lansden Park originally came from the Andrew Lohr Home across the street at 2710 Walnut. The house was erected about 1892 and was occupied by Andrew Lohr, one of Cairo's earliest residents, who operated a bottling facility at 424 8th Street. Before the house was razed, Cairo Police Officers Michael Bryan and James “Dee” Harris, II, rescued the cupola. The gazebo in Lansden Park was facilitated by Cairo Mayor James E. Wilson, designed by Monica L Smith, and erected by Cairoite Tim Gibson with help from the Cairo Public Utility Company, with funding provided by a grant from Modern Woodmen of America.
