Meade County was established in 1823, Brandenburg in 1825, and Brandenburg Ferry operated from 1804 to 1966. A major flood occurred in January 1937, and a series of tornadoes devastated the Brandenburg area on April 3, 1974. On July 8, 1863, Gen. John Hunt Morgan and approximately 3,000 troops of the Confederate States of America crossed the Ohio River to begin a march north. The Brandenburg Woman’s Club existed from 1910 to 1985, and the Meade County Library was established in 1952.
