This location was deeded to Martin V. "Uncle Mart" Fleming in 1877, and after the building was constructed the Fleming Meat Market operated here from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. In the late 1800s Fleming transferred the deed to JD Sherrill, Eliza Kempner of Galveston, who was then overseeing her late husband's banking and grocery supply businesses, and TJ Holmsley, apparently to secure lines of credit for supplying Fleming's market. Fleming's daughter Camille conveyed the building to Judge Newton R. Lindsey in 1904, and Lindsey's family owned it for 34 years before selling it to Wade H. Evridge in 1939. The Evridge family owned the building for the next 30 years. Other businesses in the space included a telegraph office and, for many years, Bob Stanton's tailor shop. Herbert Goodson entered the insurance business in 1947, purchased J.H. "Tiny" Burton's interest in Burton and Goodson Insurance in 1969, and in 1971 bought this building and moved his offices here from down the street. In the early 1970s the east half of the building was occupied by J.P. (Buddie) Hicks Real Estate while Goodson Insurance occupied the west half, but after Hicks Realty moved to the northeast corner of the square, Goodson Insurance became the building's sole occupant. The building's façade was restored in 2003 during Comanche's Main Street program.
