Wilson County was created on February 13, 1860, and organized on August 6, 1860. It was named in honor of James Charles Wilson, who lived from 1816 to 1861, was a member of the Mier Expedition, served as District Clerk of Brazoria County in 1844, and was a senator from Matagorda County. Floresville is the county seat.
