Men from Milesburg and Boggs Township were honored for service in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection, the Army of Occupation in Cuba, the First World War, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The Civil War section invokes Fort Sumter to Appomattox, honors those who defended the nation to keep it whole, and recalls Abraham Lincoln's praise for the first Pennsylvania troops in Washington, D.C., his blessing for the Pennsylvanians and their loyal governor, and his Gettysburg words that the world would little note what was said there but could never forget what they did there. The Spanish-American War section recalls the sinking of the battleship Maine in Havana Harbor, Cuba, on February 15, 1898, and names local servicemen, including one in the U.S. Engineer Company B, 5th Regiment of Infantry, Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 1st Army Corps, during the Philippine Insurrection of 1899, as well as men in the Army of Occupation in Cuba. The First World War section honors the boys of Milesburg and Boggs Township who served their country, remembers those who made the supreme sacrifice, and lists men who served as captain, lieutenants, sergeants, corporals, bandsmen, bugler, cook, wagoner, privates, Navy personnel, and in the Army of Occupation. The later wars honor those who served honorably and unselfishly in defense of the country, those who made the supreme sacrifice, and the men and women whose dignity, dedication, courage, sacrifice, devotion to duty, and bravery were remembered in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
