Founded in 1840, Peace United Methodist Church began as a Quaker Sabbath School for freed slaves. Later purchased by the Northern Methodist Conference, it was given to the local congregation, which birthed Laughlin School. The black and white conferences merged in 1966, the name changed to Summerfield UMC, and it changed again in the 1970s to Peace UMC. The building received some renovations in 2003. The congregation merged with nearby Summerfield UMC in 2015.
