Tinker Knob is an 8,949-foot summit on the Sierra Nevada crest in California, within Tahoe National Forest near Donner Pass and Lake Tahoe. Its runoff divides between the North Fork American River and the Truckee River watershed, and the mountain rises sharply above the North Fork in a short distance. Crossed by the Pacific Crest Trail and listed by the Sierra Peaks Section, it is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. The name, in use since at least 1874 and later formalized by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, honors freight teamster James A. Tinker, whose road toward the Foresthill Divide gold mines passed below the peak.
