Major Elbert Dickason founded Wyocena in 1843, platted and named the village in 1846, and was instrumental in its temporary designation as county seat before his death in 1848; he is buried in Wyocena Cemetery. Erhardt Toppe recruited and managed a baseball team that won the 40-team Home Talent League championship in 1953 and 1954, and he gave many young ballplayers their first baseball experience.
