The northeast part of the Plains of San Agustin, occupied some thousands of years ago by a large intermontane lake, is a downdropped graben bordered by uplifted volcanic masses. The San Mateo and Luera Mountains and Pelona Mountains are to the southeast, and Horse Mountain and the Datil Mountains are to the northwest. The elevation is 7,030 feet.
