Sergeant William Wheeling of Company F, 1st California Infantry, was lost at Apache Pass on 18 June 1862; Private Henry J. Dosher of Company I, 5th California Infantry, at Doubtful Canyon on 4 May 1864; Private Daniel S. Whitley of Company L, 1st California Cavalry, at Apache Pass on 20 June 1864; Private George English of Company L, 1st California Cavalry, 15 miles east of Fort Buchanan on 17 February 1865; and Private John L. Jones of Company L, 1st California Cavalry, at Croton Spring on 14 July 1865. Their remembrance honors all Cochise County service members missing in action and prisoners of war.
