Private Kenneth Shadrick died in the service of his country with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea on 5 July 1950 as the first casualty of the Korean Conflict. He stands first in an unbroken line of patriots who have dared to die so that freedom might live, grow, and increase its blessings, and through freedom he lives in a way that humbles the undertakings of most men.
