First Methodist Church in Jermyn, Texas, was organized on November 24, 1909, by the Rev. L.D. Shawver, pastor, in the first house built in Jermyn, the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Jones. Its original trustees were J.D. Gillespie, H.T. Jinks, and W.T. Jones. The church, the first in the area, was built in 1910 on its present site at 1st Avenue and Wise Sise Streets.
